This is a screenshot of our mandatory large group meeting. We are starting the third quarter so Jennifer hosted this meeting to go over the next weeks' items and events.

Jennifer began our quarter 3 introduction meeting by recapping last week's check-in, to make sure we had completed it (especially to update our June hours on her Google spreadsheet). Then, Jennifer welcomed us to quarter 3, the writing quarter. She emphasized that while our research may be a lot of fun and interesting, we needed to shift gears and begin writing. By stopping our research and starting to write, we can focus on what we still need and also to help us get out of being suck in research mode. Also, because we have a holiday this week, Jennifer let us know it is light on webinars and presentations. With a little bit of a break, she encouraged us to use this time to write. During the 3rd quarter, we will also get a chance to meet with our small group cohort to talk about our progress and get to hear tips from our mentor.

A few things that we can look forward to this quarter is a workshop on accessibility, which is required. This meeting will be especially important as we write because the government is moving towards plain language instead of hard-to-understand sentences. Another workshop is an orientation on legal research and a speed networking session. Other meetings will include a session on geography, maps, prints and photographs, AP style writing and editing, and on the laws of happiness in Bhutan (I'm excited about that one!). It's very cool to be in this stage of my internship, knowing that the first half is behind me and I can focus on writing. (Although, I admit it is very hard to stop doing research because these old books on piracy are super interesting with a whole lot of information. Maybe I should have been a history major!)
